Putrajaya: Two local sugar-producing companies have been granted permission by the government to produce clear refined white sugar whose price will be determined by the market forces, reports Free Malaysia Today.
Application submitted by MSM Malaysia Holdings Berhad and Central Sugar Refinery Sdn Bhd (CSR) to produce clear refined white sugar was approved by the government as it will give consumers a choice to buy sugar of different types, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living minister Salahuddin Ayub.
MSM has a market share of 60% while CSR has a 40% share in the market.
“These companies have been asked to produce coarse as well as refined sugar at the current quantity that would be sufficient for the retail market and the price controlled by the government,” he said.
