All government departments and agencies in Perak have been urged to cut sugar usage by 50 percent in food and beverages served at meetings and events.
A. Sivanesan, the State Chairman for Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs, and National Integration, expressed concern that despite government guidelines for food service at meetings, the issue is not being taken seriously by the relevant parties.
“We’re not focusing on other states, but we care about the 2.5 million people in Perak. We plan to address this issue after collecting feedback through a town hall session with stakeholders, before bringing it to the state executive council,” he said in a press conference today.
Earlier, he attended a briefing on Strengthening the Implementation of Serving Healthy Meals During Meetings (PHSSM) in the Public Service, as part of the state’s ‘War on Sugar’ campaign.
In his remarks, Sivanesan emphasized that the War on Sugar campaign is part of the government’s initiative to prevent Malaysians from becoming complacent and falling victim to diseases caused by excessive sugar intake.
