Malaysia: “Wednesday will be sugar-free day in Parliament”

Beginning with the next meeting, Wednesday will be designated as a sugar-free day in Parliament, announced Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

“Every Wednesday during the upcoming Parliament sessions will be a sugar-free day. This ruling applies to everyone in Parliament, including the media,” he stated while addressing reporters after a media engagement session on September 25.

He explained that this policy will take effect at the start of the Parliament session, which runs from October 14 to December 12, ensuring that no sugar is added to beverages like teh-tarik (Like tea).

“If you want to bring in tea, you need to check if it contains sugar,” he added. “This initiative aims to promote a healthier society.”
