Many sugar factories will take part in AI farming process: Sharad Pawar

Sharad Pawar, NCP (SP) president and former Union agriculture minister. stated that farming is undergoing a revolution and artificial intelligence will soon be applied to sugarcane cultivation.

“The AI technology can be used to boost the quality of sugarcane. Many sugar factories will take part in the AI farming process. A meeting is scheduled later in the day with some officials of sugar factories. A revolutionary decision will be made soon, and the use of AI in farming will begin soon,” he told reporters in Baramati.

On Saturday, Pawar also expressed concern over the issue of farmer suicides in Marathwada and Vidarbha, urging the Centre to formulate a policy to support farmers.

His remarks come in light of data released by the state relief and rehabilitation department, showing that 2,635 farmers in Maharashtra died by suicide in 2024.

“The information from Marathwada and Vidarbha is concerning. We will gather accurate data from different areas. The Centre should develop a policy to assist farmers,” he said.
