Kolhapur: Marathwada sugarcane farmers would be relieved up to some extent as Kolhapur will extend help by sending mechanism harvesters for cutting excess cane grown in the region, reports The Times of India.
The crushing season in the state is in the last leg but Marathwada is facing the issue of excess cane in the region. As many as 60 lakh tonnes of cane are standing in the fields and the millers are facing a shortage of workers to cut it.
Jayprakash Dandegaonkar, president of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar factories on Sunday had appealed to the harvester owners from Sangli and Kolhapur districts to send their equipment to the Marathwada region for cutting cane.
Harvester owners had then expressed concern over the payment and Dandegaonkar has assured them that the sugar commissionerate would ensure that the mills pay them their bills in time.
