Sensex ended 2,222.55 points lower at 78,759.40, whereas Nifty concluded 662.10 points down at 24,055.60.
Biggest Nifty losers were Tata Motors, Adani Ports, ONGC, Hindalco, Tata Steel, while gainers included HUL, Nestle, Tata Consumer, HDFC Life.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 885.59 points lower at 80,981.95, whereas Nifty concluded 293.20 points down at 24,717.70.
