Thanjavur: During his campaign on the outskirts of Kumbakonam, AIADMK candidate P. Babu faced many questions from sugarcane farmers connected to the old private sugar mill at Thirumandankudi, reported The Hindu.
According to the media report, a group of farmers, which was on a relay protest near the defunct sugar mill at Thirumandankudi that has been acquired by a distillery company, for over 500 days in support of their demands, intercepted Babu when he visited Maruthuvakudi and nearby hamlets on Tuesday.
Babu blamed the DMK government for their issues and promised to solve them soon. Although the farmers weren’t fully convinced, they let him continue campaigning in villages that used to supply sugarcane to the closed mill.
