The state government of Uttar Pradesh is leaving no stone unturned in assisting sugarcane farmers and ensuring they do not face any hardships during the season.
According to the sugarcane department, small sugarcane farmers are benefiting significantly from obtaining machinery at appropriate rental rates through sugarcane committees. Advanced agricultural machinery is available in the established Farm Machinery Bank of the state’s 146 cooperative sugarcane/sugar mill committees. Due to the department’s meaningful efforts, mechanization in sugarcane field is increasing, with utilization by 25,031 sugarcane farmers so far.
There is a consistent increase in sugarcane production in the state. While the yield per hectare for plant cane was 742 quintals in the last six years, it has increased to 853 quintals per hectare in the year 2022-23, showing an improvement of 111 quintals per hectare. Similarly, for ratoon cane, there has been an increase in productivity to 824 quintals per hectare in the year 2022-23, with an improvement of 120 quintals per hectare.
