Meerut: RJD demands early start of sugar mills

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Mawana tehsildar Akanksha Joshi, demanding the early start of sugar mills, reported livehindustan.

The memorandum, addressed to CM, stated that the RJD would launch an agitation if the sugar mills were not operational by November 5.

The memorandum said that the non-operation of sugar mills had created a fodder crisis for farmers. The RJD demands that the sugar mills must be operational by all means by November 5, 2023.

The memorandum demanded a sugarcane price of Rs 500 per quintal this year. The RJD said that the floods in the Ganga Khadar region of Mawana tehsil had caused heavy damage to sugarcane and paddy crops, with nearly 75% of the crops in the Khadar region being destroyed. The affected farmers should be compensated after a survey of the damaged crops.

Those present at the time of the memorandum submission included RJD state general secretary Yusuf Qureshi, district president Rajendra Prasad Jatav, youth RJD district president Naeem Rana, Naveed Alam, Mukhia Qasim, Hafiz Babar, Javed Ansari, Virendra Bhadana and Faraz Advocate.
