Meerut: Sugar mills in the Meerut division of Uttar Pradesh have started paying cane prices for the current crushing season 2023-2024, reported Live Hindustan.
Three sugar mills in Meerut district and one in Bulandshahr have paid a total of ₹49.57 crore to farmers. The remaining sugar mills are expected to start paying soon.
Of the 15 sugar mills in the division, 14 have started the current crushing season. So far, around 104 lakh quintals of sugarcane have been purchased. Sugar mills have also begun paying cane prices for the sugarcane purchased.
Mawana sugar mill in Meerut district has paid ₹14.16 crore, Daurala mill has paid ₹10.14 crore, Nanglamal has paid ₹8.67 crore and Sabitgarh sugar mill in Bulandshahr has paid ₹16.60 crore. The four mills have paid a total of ₹49.57 crore.
Deputy Cane Commissioner Rajesh Mishra and District Cane Officer Dr. Dushyant Kumar said that sugar mills are being asked to pay for the sugarcane purchased within 14 days. Four mills have started paying. The remaining sugar mills will also be asked to pay.
