Millers increase sugar prices in Nepal

Kathmandu: Citing an increase in sugarcane price by the government, the sugar producers have raised the sugar rates, reports local media.

The millers have increased the factory price of sugar from Rs 72-76 (Nepalese Rupee) per kg to Rs 82-90 per kg. The consumers will have to now pay up to Rs 100 for one kg of sugar.

According to the media reports, the millers claim that the increase in the minimum support price of sugarcane by the government is the reason behind the hike in sugar prices. The government has increased MSP for sugarcane by Rs 45.67 per quintal taking it to Rs 590 per quintal this season.
