Almost all sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have concluded their operations for the 2023-24 season. According to data released by the Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Department on May 30, majority of mills in the state have ended their crushing operations for this season.
During the 2023-24 season, 9,803 lakh quintals of sugarcane were crushed, resulting in the production of 1,038 lakh quintals (103.8 lakh tonnes) of sugar. The mills achieved a sugar recovery rate of 11.51 percent (without B-Heavy). The timely and smooth operation of the crushing season facilitated the easy supply of sugarcane to farmers.
It is estimated that the country will produce around 320 lakh tonnes of sugar this season. Preparations for the next season are already underway in the state, with sugarcane surveys ongoing in the sugarcane-producing districts.
