Lucknow: India is set to witness higher sugar production this season, but Uttar Pradesh has registered a marginal decline compared to the previous season.
According to the data released by the state government, sugar mills in the state have produced 92.34 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 913 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till April 11, 2022. The sugar mills have paid Rs 20,956.63 crore to the cane farmers so far which is 71.70 per cent of the total dues.
In the ongoing season, Maharashtra has surpassed Uttar Pradesh in terms of sugar production. The state is also likely to record highest production in this season.
