Pune: Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra has entered the last phase with mills started closing the operations. The state has crossed the mark of 1000 lakh quintal (100 lakh tonnes) sugar production.
In the ongoing season, 197 sugar mills have participated in the crushing operations. Out of which, till March 6, 2022, two sugar mills, both from the Kolhapur division, have concluded the crushing operations.
According to the state sugar commissionerate, the mills, in the state, have produced 1020.71 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 990.74 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.30 per cent.
Kolhapur division is leading in terms of sugar production with the mills produced 268.02 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 229.14 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.70 per cent.
Maximum sugar mills are operating in the Solapur division (46) in the ongoing crushing season. The mills have so far produced 216.83 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 232.98 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
