Minister Dilip Walse Patil advocates for hike in sugar MSP

In a recent technical seminar organized by the National Federation of Sugar Factories at the Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), Maharashtra’s Cooperative Dilip Walse Patil advocated for a higher Minimum Selling Price (MSP) for sugar, specifically proposing an increase to ₹3,720 per quintal due to high production cost.

The proposal for a increase MSP comes amidst the backdrop of increasing concerns about the rising costs of sugar production. Minister Patil and industry leaders are aiming for coordinated efforts to secure better economic prospects for sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra.

He said that the state government is actively monitoring the rainfall situation and collaborating closely with the sugar mills. Additionally, discussions are underway with various sugar organizations, and there are plans to propose an increase in MSP for sugar to the Union government.
