Bidar, Karnataka: Forest, Environment, and Ecology Minister Eshwar B Khandre has issued a warning to sugar mills in the district that have failed to clear their dues to farmers.
During a review meeting of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board on Saturday, Khandre expressed deep concern over the financial plight of sugarcane cultivators due to pending payments.
According to the news report by Deccan Chronicle, he noted that among the five sugar factories operating in the district, three have settled their outstanding dues to farmers. However, Bidar Kissan Shakkar Karkhana Ltd in Mogadhal still owes Rs 3.40 crore, and Bhalkeshwar Sugar Factory in Bhalki has pending dues of Rs 3.18 crore. Khandre has directed officials to seize sugar stocks from these factories and auction them if necessary, to ensure timely payment to the farmers.
