Mizoram Governor invites investors to explore and invest in bamboo based ethanol industry

Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow in Hyderabad on November 13, organized by the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DONER) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) at the Park Hyatt.

In his address, Dr. Kambhampati encouraged investors, particularly those in drone pilot training and services, to collaborate with the Mizoram government to promote the use of drones in agriculture and other vital sectors. He also urged IT companies and skill development organizations to create opportunities for the tech-savvy youth of Mizoram. Highlighting the region’s abundant resources and potential, the Governor invited industrialists to explore investment opportunities in the Northeast by leveraging advanced technologies. Highlighting the large bamboo reserves in Northeast states, he invited the investors to explore and invest in bamboo based ethanol industry. The Governor further emphasized the central government’s commitment to developing Northeast India and the ongoing progress in various sectors, adding that the region is gradually gaining prominence and peace.

India’s Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL), a subsidiary of Oil India, is working on ethanol production from bamboo at its biorefinery in the northeastern state of Assam. Engineers India Limited is also preparing the Pre-Feasibility Report for a bamboo-based 2G ethanol biorefinery in Meghalaya.

As the ethanol blending program progresses, the government is also exploring various feedstocks for ethanol production.
