Modinagar: Action taken against sugarcane farmers for burning stubble

Modinagar: The sugarcane department took action against two farmers and stopped their sugarcane bonds for burning stubble (sugarcane leaves) without caring for the environment. In view of increasing pollution, the administration has banned burning of stubble. The farmers, identified as Dushyant and Rajesh, were caught burning crop residue in their fields in violation of a government ban, reported Amar Ujala.

The ban on crop residue burning was imposed to reduce air pollution. Crop residue burning is a major source of air pollution in India, contributing to smog and respiratory problems.

District Sugarcane Officer Pradeep Tevtiya stated that information was received about farmers burning crop residue in the fields of villages Mohammadpur Kadim and Shahjadpur in the Modinagar tehsil area. The department dispatched a sugarcane supervisor to the scene to investigate the matter, confirming the burning of crop residue. Despite the prohibition, the department took action against farmers Dushyant and Rajesh, imposing a ban on their sugarcane.

It is worth mentioning that after the commencement of the new sugarcane harvesting season, some farmers are burning crop residue in the fields after cutting sugarcane. The District Magistrate has urged farmers not to burn crop residue, stating that if any farmer is found burning it, action will be taken against them.
