Agra: In a strange incident in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, monkeys and rain supposedly damaged over 1,100 quintals of sugar worth Rs 35 lakh at a sugar mill, according to an audit report from Kisan Sahakari Chini Mills Limited. Suspecting something fishy, district officials have started an investigation.
As per the audit report, 1,137 quintals of white sugar were spoiled, blaming the damage on monkeys and rain. Officials estimated the loss to be around Rs 35.2 lakh.
The report points fingers at several mill officials, including the principal manager Rahul Yadav, chief account officer Omprakash, manager chemist MK Sharma, accountant Mahipal Singh, security officer Dalveer Singh, and warehouse keeper Gulab Singh. This report has been sent to the sugarcane commissioner and the deputy director of the Sugar Mills Association in Lucknow.
Chief chemist MK Sharma mentioned, “The sugar mill stopped working two years ago; we don’t have enough staff or money for maintenance.”
