Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Anuj Singh instructed the two sugar mills in the district to ensure that they clear all the pending cane dues of the farmers at the earliest, reported Live Hindustan.
While 96% of the total cane payments in the district have been completed, payments totalling Rs 39 crores are still pending from the Bilari and Belwada sugar mills.
The District Magistrate (DM) emphasized that these payments must be made without further delay. During the meeting held at the camp office, District Cane Officer Ram Kishan reported that out of ₹945.32 crore owed to farmers for the cane purchased, the sugar mills have paid ₹906.31 crore, accounting for 95.87% of the total. However, ₹39.01 crore remains unpaid by the sugar mills.
A representative from Bilari Sugar Mill informed that ₹7.16 crore is pending, which will be cleared by September. The representative from Belwada Sugar Mill stated that their pending amount of ₹31.85 crore would be paid before the next crushing season, using funds from sugar sales, margin money, and molasses.
The DM sternly instructed that all pending payments must be completed immediately, with no leniency. The DM emphasized that resolving farmers’ pending payments and any other issues is a top priority, warning that strict action would be taken against anyone showing negligence in this matter.
