Moradabad: Sugar mills to end crushing operations early this season

Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: Four sugar mills in the district are set to close earlier than expected due to a decline in sugarcane production. So far, 204 lakh quintals of sugarcane have been crushed in the district, which is 22 lakh quintals less than last year, reported Amar Ujala.

The primary reason for the early closure of the mills is the reduced yield of sugarcane. According to reports, the Belwara and Bilari sugar mills, operated by the Rana Group, will cease operations by Tuesday night. District Sugarcane Officer Ram Kishan stated that the Rani Nangal (Thakurdwara) and Agwanpur sugar mills will continue operating until the first week of March.

He explained that sugar mills usually remain operational until the end of March, but due to lower sugarcane production this season, they are shutting down earlier than usual.

Kishan also mentioned that around 80% of farmers’ payments are expected to be cleared by Tuesday. He assured that pressure is being maintained on sugar mills to ensure timely payments. The decline in sugarcane production has been attributed to the red rot disease, which has significantly impacted yields.
