On Friday, March NY world sugar #11 (SBH25) closed up +0.11 (+0.57%), while March London ICE white sugar #5 (SWH25) finished down -9.90 (-1.91%).
Sugar prices ended mixed on Friday. NY sugar saw a moderate increase due to short covering, following a report from Unica that cumulative sugar production in Brazil’s Center-South region for the 2024/25 season was down 5.1% year-on-year to 39.711 million metric tons as of mid-December. Unica also noted that only 129 sugar mills were operational in Brazil during the first half of December, compared to 185 mills in the same period last year.
