Chandigarh: On the backdrop of recent agitation of sugarcane farmers over the demand of hiking SAP, Congress MP Pratap Singh Bajwa said that he hoped that the state government would set in a mechanism to review the sugarcane prices every year keeping in view the rising input costs.
The increase in the sugarcane purchase prices keeping in view the rising cost of production will ensure that the cane cultivation becomes sustainable for farmers, he said.
Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh recently increased the cane prices by Rs 50 per quintal for the 2021-22 crushing season after the sugarcane farmers launched a protest demanding hike in the cane prices.
