Salempur: Member of Parliament Ravindra Kushwaha raised the issue of closed sugar mills from Purvanchal in Lok Sabha on Friday.
The BJP MP said that the sugarcane farmers from the region are facing severe problems of crushing their cane due to lack of sugar mills in the region. The BSP government had sold more than a dozen sugar mills at low rate for its benefit and now the region has only one sugar mill, Pratappur that is catering the needs of the sugarcane farmers. But this mill is not sufficient to crush all the cane grown in the region and the people from the region demand setting up of a new modern sugar mill with higher cane crushing capacity, he said.
