Hapur: Kunwar Danish Ali, BSP MP representing Amroh-Gadhmukteshwar constituency has demanded the government to purchase the lat season’s 5.28 lakh quintal sugar stock of Simbhaoli sugar mill to help in paying sugarcane arrears around Rs 250 crore. The mill is unable to clear the stock as it is sitting with surplus sugar.
Ali said, “When farmers ask the mill to pay arrears, the mill administration cite sale quota restrictions. When I enquired, the mill administration stated that last year they had purchased sugarcane worth Rs 484.74 crore and have cleared dues around Rs 243.14 crore. Now the mill will clear arrears around Rs 250.59 crore after selling the available stock.”
The sugar mill management also said that if they get permission to sell 5.28 lakh quintals of old sugar stock, a payment of around Rs 175 crore can be made. MP urged the government to allow sugar mill to sell surplus sugar and said the government policy is affecting the farmers.
