Mumbai: Heavy rain in Mumbai and adjoining areas have paralysed the city. It continued to batter the financial capital of India and many parts of Maharashtra disrupting normal life and hitting air, road and rail traffic.
The rain has impacted the Mumbai-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express. According to the reports, with over 700 passengers on board was stranded near Badlapur due to waterlogged tracks. The Navy and NDRF have been sent for the rescue. The train is held up since 3 am. So far, around 300 passengers have been evacuated till now.
Maharashtra’s Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) Brijesh Singh said three boats have reached the location where the train is stranded.
Through a tweet, Railway appealed passengers not to step outside the train as water levels outside are dangerous and urged them to wait for assistance.
As per the reports, once the water level goes below 1 feet, an engine will be sent to pull the train.
