The Mumias sugar company resumed ethanol production after the Kakamega County Government agreed to provide full support and revive mill. It will be working with the receiver-manager to fully reinvigorate the mill.
The power supply was reconnected to the mill despite huge debts. The Kenya Commercial Bank had appointed a receiver manager PVR Rao last year on mill owing to huge debts.
Rao said, “After we took charge of the mill, our target was to resume production and we have achieved it.”
The mill management has stated that the ethanol production has begun now and the sugar production will start by April end.
“The farmers were unhappy as the mill had stopped operations. They will be happy once we start sugar production,” said Rao.
