Saharanpur: The sugarcane crushing season in Muzaffarnagar district has come to an early end, with four of the eight sugar mills in the district already closed and the remaining mills expected to end crushing operations in the coming days, reported Amar Ujala.
Compared to the previous season, it is estimated that around 74.76 lakh quintals less sugarcane will be crushed this year, resulting in a reduction of 8.29 lakh quintals in sugar production. The variety CO-0238, susceptible to diseases and adversely affected by excessive rainfall, has impacted sugarcane production in the district.
Due to these challenges, sugar mills in the district have begun shutting down earlier this year, with Todarpur and Bidvi mills closing on February 25. The Gagalheri mill, which typically operates until April 16, concluded its crushing season on March 12, and the Saraswa mill, slated to run until May 13, ended its operations on March 15.
The Gangnauli mill, scheduled to operate until April 2 of this year, is expected to conclude its crushing season on Saturday.
