Myanmar will export 10,000 tonnes of sugar to Vietnam in the 2023-2024 sugarcane season, U Win Htay, vice-chair of the Myanmar Sugar and Cane Related Products Association, said on Friday, reported Gnlm.com.mm.
Vietnam has expressed its interest in purchasing 10,000 tonnes of Myanmar sugar for the upcoming 2023-2024 sugarcane season. Currently, negotiations are underway to determine the sugar prices and the appropriate timeframe for sugar production and shipment.
U Win Htay mentioned, “They (Vietnam) have sent a letter expressing their desire to buy our sugar. The sugar season begins in December, allowing us to sell during the new sugarcane season of 2023-2024. Our primary focus, however, remains on local consumption.”
Despite receiving sugar demand from various foreign countries, Myanmar prefers to export to Vietnam every year.
Myanmar’s annual sugar production stands at 450,000 tonnes, with exports to Vietnam ranging from 70,000 to 90,000 tonnes annually. Furthermore, the country is actively exploring new areas for sugarcane cultivation and inviting investments in both sugarcane farming and sugar production.
