Mandya: The Karnataka’s first and the only state-run sugar mill, Mysugar mill (Mysore Sugar Company Ltd.) will restart cane crushing after two years from June 2020, said Sugar Minister C. T. Ravi.
Ravi had convened the meeting of elected representatives, some farmers’ representatives and officials to discuss the fate of the mill and informed the government’s motive to commence the operations.
A resolution was passed in the meeting convened by Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) at the Mandya Zilla Panchayat auditorium on December 23 asking the state government to lease the Mysugar and Pandavapura Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane (PSSK) sugar mills. Ravi said it was thus necessary to gather the opinions of cane growers and mills employees before taking a decision.
“The government spent more than Rs 428 crore on the mill in past 10 years, and the decision regarding leasing the mill will be taken in this month,” Ravi further added.
The cane growers, however, were not happy as they were not consulted before conducting the meeting.
