Pune: Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is at the final phase and almost 173 sugar mills have completed the crushing operations.
According to the state sugarcane commissionerate, of the 26 sugar mills from Nanded, 25 have closed their operations. The sugar mills have produced 93.97 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 94.28 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 9.97 per cent.
According to the sugar commissionerate, total 190 sugar mills in the state took part in the cane crushing operations and produced 1058.86 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1009.11 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.49%.
All the 43 sugar mills from the Solapur division, 37 from Kolhapur, 28 from Pune, 19 from Ahmednagar, 17 from Aurangabad and 2 each from Nagpur and Amravati have closed their operations.
