Ambala: The Naraingarh sugar mill commences cane crushing from today. Sugar mill has failed to pay cane arrears to sugarcane farmers.
The farmer after hearing that mill is set to start crushing launched agitation outside the mill premises. The mill officials convinced the farmers that they are yet to receive around 12.19 crore from the power department, which they expect to get by December 31. Following which mill will clear the dues. After getting assurance, farmers called off their protest.
Rajiv Sharma, the BKU spokesperson, said, “The mill administration has assured us that the previous payments will be paid by December 5. while the new payment will start from the next day.” BKU warned of agitation in case if the mill fails to clear the dues till December 31.
In the month of August, sugarcane farmers, who gave their sugarcane to the private sugar mill in Ambala, had intensified their protest due to non-payment of cane arrears. They staged a demonstration outside the sugar factory demanding mill to pay the dues of the 2018-2019 season at the earliest. The stir came to an end when Haryana cabinet announced the financial help to Naraingarh sugar mill.
