Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has asked the sugar industry to focus on byproducts like ethanol and molasses to generate sustainable energy.
He was speaking while addressing a gathering to mark the birth centenary of Annasaheb Shinde, the Congress veteran, who played key role in Green Revolution in 1970s along with Dr M S Swaminathan, Babu Jagjivan Ram and C Subramanian.
Pawar said, “We should focus on production of ethanol and molasses from sugarcane juice which can be used as green energy,”.
“We have sufficient sugar to cater the domestic need and now it’s time to shift towards production of other products that would boost the economy as well as help farmers increase their income,” he further added.
