Nepal: Armed Police Force seizes smuggled sugar

Armed Police Force (APF) personnel seized 600 sacks of smuggled sugar from a truck in Bardaghat Municipality’s Ward 2 on Monday. Two individuals have been detained for investigation in connection with the contraband, reports The Kathmandu Post.

According to the police, the truck was en route to Kathmandu from Bhairahawa and was carrying smuggled sugar, mobile phone parts, and other goods. The APF discovered the illegal items during a routine security check.

APF superintendent Prakash Wagle said, “The market value of the seized smuggled goods has been estimated around Rs6.8 million.” Authorities confirmed that the smuggled goods entered Nepal without paying a single rupee in customs duties.

Suspects along with the seized goods are handed over to Maheshpur for further investigation.
