Nepal: Government fixes sugarcane purchase price at Rs 635 per quintal

The Nepal government has fixed the sugarcane purchase price in the country. Although sugarcane farmers were asking for Rs 750 (NPR- Nepalese Rupee) per quintal, the government set the minimum purchase price at Rs 635 per quintal.

The decision was made during the Council of Ministers’ meeting held on Wednesday.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma explained that sugar mills will pay Rs 565, and the government will provide Rs 70. She said, “The minimum purchase price for sugarcane is now set, with the industry contributing Rs 565 per quintal and the government adding Rs 70 per quintal. As a result, farmers will receive Rs 635 per quintal for their sugarcane.”

Sharma claimed that this move has been taken aiming to support the sugarcane industry and ensure fair compensation for farmers.
