Kathmandu: The government has approved the Salt Trading Corporation (STC) and the Food Management & Trade Company (FMTC) to import 30,000 metric tons of sugar, with a 50 per cent customs duty waiver, in anticipation of possible shortages during the upcoming festival season, reported Khabarhub.com.
The Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the decision that each organization shall get an exemption of 50 per cent of the duty on the import of 15,000 metric tons of sugar.
Minister Gurung has said this step will ensure an uninterrupted supply of sugar during the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals when there is a high demand for the product.
