Kathmandu: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has issued a directive to the central bank, instructing the freezing of all bank accounts belonging to two sugar mill operators who have failed to settle outstanding dues owed to sugarcane farmers, reported Online Khabar.
As a result, the accounts of Annapurna Sugar Mill and Lumbini Sugar Mill have been placed under freeze.
Several weeks ago, the proprietors had committed to settling the dues by Tuesday. After a protest initiated by farmers in Kathmandu, the government intervened, compelling the sugar mill operators to engage in dialogue.
Simultaneously, the Department of Revenue Investigation has received instructions to conduct an inquiry into the financial transactions of both companies.
