Nepal shifts focus on ethanol blending

Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Damodar Bhandari highlighted notable progress in the development of a policy for blending ethanol with petroleum products.

At the ‘Extensive Debate on Mixing Ethanol in Petroleum Products’ event hosted by the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ), Minister Bhandari confirmed that the government has made considerable strides with the ethanol blending policy.

“The regulations for blending ethanol with petroleum products have been prepared. The only step remaining is to finalie the pricing, which we expect to address within a month,” he stated.

He further explained that the government has provided directives and established the necessary policies for the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) to advance, aiming to cut daily petroleum consumption through ethanol production.

The Minister emphasised that ethanol production will not only reduce petroleum usage but also create job opportunities domestically.

The discussion centered on the proposed 10% ethanol blend in petroleum products, which has gained recent attention.
