Kathmandu (Nepal): In a bid to address long-standing issues faced by sugarcane farmers and the sugar industry, Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supply, Damodar Bhandari, has proposed setting up a special task force to find sustainable, long-term solutions. The announcement came during a meeting at the Ministry of Industry with representatives from the sugar industry association.
As per the news report by Nepali Media KhabarHub, at the meeting, Shashikant Agarwal, President of the association, outlined key issues affecting the industry. Agarwal urged the government to crack down on illegal importation of sugar and to facilitate the distribution of improved seed varieties to sugarcane farmers.
Minister Bhandari emphasized that the government is dedicated to resolving the challenges confronting both sugarcane farmers and sugar producers. He instructed the task force to provide concrete recommendations within 15 days. Bhandari also encouraged industry leaders to create a supportive atmosphere for sugarcane farmers, pointing out that the government has a positive outlook on the sugar sector. He stressed that a united effort is necessary to strengthen sugarcane farming and reduce the need for frequent government intervention.
