NFCSF meets Amit Shah to urge increase in sugar MSP, allow sugar exports

Senior BJP leader Harshvardhan Patil, President of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited, and the federation’s Managing Director Prakash Naiknavare met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Monday to address issues plaguing the sugar industry.

Patil noted that despite long-standing requests for an increase, the MSP for sugar has not been raised since 2019, posing challenges for factory owners.

“Besides sugar MSP, we also discussed the ban on sugar exports and restrictions on ethanol,” Patil told TOI.

Earlier this month, the federation, along with the Indian Sugar Mills Association, submitted cost data to support their demand for MSP hike. The current MSP stands at Rs 31 per kg.

Naiknaware said, “We have requested the government to allow sugar exports.” Additionally, the federation members sought the removal of all ethanol production restrictions.
