The NSE Nifty extended its gains for the second day today by surging 84 points to end at 10,768.35 on good buying mainly in realty, metal, energy and IT sectors.
Positive leads from global markets and overnight rally on the Wall Street boosted sentiments on the domestic bourses.
Overseas, Europe stocks rose while Asian equities settled higher boosted by an overnight rally in the US stocks, which saw the Dow Jones industrial average close above 25,000.
The broader Nifty finished the day at 10,768.35, showing a gain of 83.70 points, or 0.78 per cent, after shuttling between 10,818.00 and 10,722.60.
It saw an intra-day movement of about 95.40 points.
On the sectoral front, realty climbed by 2.97 per cent followed by metal 1.48 per cent, energy 1.32 per cent, IT 1.15 per cent, FMCG 0.92 per cent, finance services 0.84 per cent, private bank 0.73 per cent, media 0.72 per cent, auto 0.72 per cent and bank 0.57 per cent.
Major index gainers were Tata Steel 3.86 per cent, Tata Motors 3.30 per cent, ICICI Bank 2.47 per cent, Indiabulls Housing Finance 2.38 per cent and Asian Paints 2.22 per cent.
Losers included, Titan 1.37 per cent, IndusInd Bank 1.01 per cent, Eicher Motor 0.79 per cent, Coal India 0.60 per cent and Kotak Bank 0.40 per cent.
A total of 1,439 scrips advanced and 387 declined while 52 remained unchanged.
Total securities that have hit their price band were 288.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 29,490.98 crore from Rs 27,089.21 crore as on Wednesday.
A total of 15,294.33 lakh shares changed hands in 10,883,812 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 14,609,208 crore.
