Nigeria: Dangote Sugar Refinery targets 1.5 million tonnes annual sugar production

Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) Numan, the largest sugar producer in Nigeria and Africa, has set an target of achieving an annual production of 1.5 million metric tonnes of sugar, reported Africa.businessinsider.

Sylvain Judex, the Chief Executive Officer of DSR Numan, announced the company’s goal during a facility tour in the Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State yesterday. He emphasized that the company’s recent and vigorous expansion initiatives have yielded remarkable success.
In 2002, the Dangote Group assumed control of the business, which was then in a dilapidated state and located on an extensive 32,000-hectare property in Numan. Over the years, the company’s fortunes have undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to a sustained series of expansion efforts, as reported by Nairametrics.

Judex stressed that this environmentally friendly expansion adheres to top-notch environmental standards, ensuring zero environmental pollution, while simultaneously creating a minimum of 8,000 job opportunities for Nigerians. As a substantial contributor to the sugar industry, this expansion aims not only to augment their production capacity but also to generate new employment opportunities, thereby strengthening the country’s workforce.

The company aspires to achieve a workforce of 8,000 employees, aligning with the projected daily crushing of 17,000 tonnes of sugarcane at the refinery. Judex emphasized that this expansion will lead to the creation of additional job opportunities for the local community, ultimately contributing to broader economic prosperity.

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. currently holds the distinction of being the largest sugar producer in Nigeria and Africa.
