Belagavi: A massive fire broke out at the Shree Halasidhanath Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd in Nippani on Friday, resulting in financial losses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with police, battled the blaze for over four hours. Fire tenders were dispatched from multiple locations, including Sankeshwar, Chikkodi, Kagal, and Hammidwada in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district, to help contain the fire.
According to factory officials, the fire started in the boiler around 4 p.m. Factory owners estimated losses exceeding Rs. 5 crore, reported The Hindu.
Firefighting teams from various sugar mills and municipal corporations joined forces to control the blaze. Responding units included teams from Sadashiv Rao Mandalika sugar mill in Hammidwada, Chhatrapati Shahu Cooperative sugar factory in Kagal, Kagal Municipal Corporation, and municipal bodies in Nippani, Chikkodi, and Sankeshwar, along with Hirasugar sugar factory and DKSS Factory.
District Fire and Emergency Services Officer Shashidhar Neelgar expressed gratitude to all volunteers and employees for their efforts in extinguishing the fire.
Factory committee president Malagonda Patil, Vice-President Pawan Kumar Patil, and Managing Director Appasaheb Shirgave were present at the site to oversee the situation.
