A 100% ethanol-fueled variant of Toyota’s Innova will be unveiled by the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on August 29.
Speaking at the Mint Sustainability Summit, the minister shared the information stating that the automakers should come out with alternative fuel-powered and green vehicles. He launched a hydrogen-powered car Toyota Mirai EV last year.
He said, “We have to take steps to lower spending on petroleum imports by increasing the use of biofuels, he said. “We have to bring oil import to zero, which is Rs 16 lakh crore at present, to become atmanirbhar (self-reliant).”
“I will be launching the popular (Toyota) Innova car on 100% ethanol on August 29,” minister further added.
“We have taken several steps to reduce air and water pollution and a lot more is to be done. We should move to the use of biofuels to protect our ecology and environment,” said the minister.
