No sugar shortage in Sri Lanka: Minister

Sri Lanka’s Finance State Minister, Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, has reassured the public that there is currently an inventory of 19,000 metric tonnes of imported sugar in the country. As a result, he emphasized that there is no likelihood of a sugar shortage or unwarranted price escalation.
Dr. Siyambalapitiya urged citizens to report any instances of elevated sugar prices or efforts to create an unjustified scarcity to the Consumer Service Authority for prompt action.

Recently, he had asserted that sugar must be retailed strictly at the stipulated controlled price, and the Consumer Service Authority is tasked with identifying and taking legal action against those who sell sugar above the regulated price.
