Kolhapur: The sugar mills from Kolhapur will not start cane crushing till the farmers and millers agree over a sugarcane purchase price. The decision was taken after the meeting between millers, and Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna failed to come to any conclusions.
The millers have agreed to meet again on November 25, two days after the Sugarcane conference of SSS to discuss the issue. The SSS will declare the cane purchase rate in its conference and based on it, the millers will negotiate with farmers on November 25.
The millers in a meeting scheduled on Sunday had put forward the option of paying FRP in three installments which was outrightly rejected by SSS members.
Representing millers MLC Satej Patil and MLA Prakash Abitkar stated that the availability of loan, pending sugar stocks and other issues, have affected the financial situation of mills and many are not in the condition to pay FRP. We request farmers to consider the issue.
