A MoU was signed today between National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kenya on virtual platform. The MoU signed by Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute and Prof. Prof. Hazel Miseda Mumbo, Vice Chancellor, Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kenya.
Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kenya is one of the few Universities established in the Sugar Belt in Kenya, in fact it is the only one in the Kisumu Sugar Belt region. The Government of Kenya is increasingly putting a focus on Agribusiness, and given that our university stands at an advantage being around the Sugar Belt, there is need to support the sugar industry both in producing technical staff and teaching staff for the growth and sustainability of sugar industry in the region said Prof. Hazel. Thus, we approached National Sugar Institute, Kanpur to help in developing teaching and training facilities at our university she added.
National Sugar Institute shall provide necessary know how to Great Lakes University of Kisumu to develop various facilities including curricula in subjects of interest to university, particularly in sugar production, processing technology and any other areas related to development of value added sugar products, said Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur. NSI shall teach the curricula to the trainees that university would nominate for training in India on various aspects related to sugar technology. Such training programmes shall be conducted in Kenya or in India or on-line as per mutual convenience.
The MoU is another feather in cap for the institute and will further help in taking the institute activities forward to various African countries said Shri Ashok Garg, Education In-charge.
