National Sugar Institute, Kanpur conducted a webinar on the topic “Modern Trends in Automation to Enhance Efficiency of Sugar Factories” on 09 July 2021. The webinar was inaugurated by Shri S. S. Gangawati, President, Deccan Sugar Technologist Association, Pune. Shri Gangawati in his address emphasised for automation specifically in the areas of Cane Handling, Juice Extraction and Juice Flow Stabilization. Control of Juice Flow is essential to derive better efficiency throughout the process resulting in better quality of sugar with minimum loses during processing.
In his introductory remarks Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur advocated end to end automation to reduce the overall cost of production. He also expressed his thoughts on use of modern Instrumentation and Automation techniques for increasing the man machine interaction and reducing the man machine interventions so that the efficiency of the man and machine may be utilised to the maximum possible extents. Shri Virendra Kumar, Senior Instrument Engineer and Convenor of the Webinar outlined the programme and citing examples emphasised upon the use of Artificial Intelligence and Fuzzy Logic for enhancing the efficiency of the plant Shri Atul Kumar Srivastava, Addl. General Manager (Engineering ), DCM Shri Ram Ltd. presented his views on technologies being considered for plant Automation such as Artificial Intelligence, Fuzzy & Big Data for the precise control and monitoring. He also emphasised on Condition Monitoring System at various points and Intelligent Energy Monitoring Systems to be placed at various consumption points. Mr. Harjeet Singh Bola, Managing Director, IPRO India expressed his thought on the “Sugar Crystallization in Vacuum Pans” presented details of an innovative system by adaptation of which besides optimisation of energy consumption, capacity utilization & use of water, quality of the product may also be improved. Ms Subhi Goel, Project Marketing manager, Emersion India Ltd. discussed about various analytical and flow measuring instruments and focussed upon adopting technologies leading to Digital Transformation of the plants to the Modern and Smart Plant.
