Nigeria: A delegation of National Sugar Development Council, Nigeria comprising Mr. Mohammed Gidada Kawuyo, Co-ordinator, Nigerian Sugar Institute and Mr. Auwalu Shira Abubakar, Director (Finance & Accounts) visited National Sugar Institute, Kanpur on Monday.
Under the MoU between the two organizations, NSI, Kanpur has already extended its help to NSDC, Nigeria for setting up of the institute and training of the faculty. The present visit of the NSDC, Nigeria delegates was to NSI, Kanpur help further for the development of Nigerian Sugar Institute, said Shri Narendra Mohan, Director, NSI, Kanpur.
Nigeria is a sugar deficient country which imports sugar to the extent of 97% to meet its requirement and thus Nigerian Government is keen to expand sugar plant capacities for which technical manpower shall also be required. Hence, the teaching and training facilities need to be enhanced and for which NSDC officials are here at NSI, said Shri Mohan.
Our purpose is to see the teaching and other facilities here at this premier institute and to develop Nigerian Sugar Institute further on the similar lines under advice from NSI, Kanpur said Mr. M G Kawuyo, Co-ordinator, Nigerian Sugar Institute. The “hands-on” facilities for learning process for sugar and alcohol production are exemplary at NSI, Kanpur and we would like to replicate them at Nigeria, he said further. In addition to it, we would like to seek NSI, Kanpur help in capacity expansion and evaluation of sugar master plan, said Mr. A S Abubakar, Director (Finance & Accounts).
