One killed after fire breaks out in sugar mill in Meerut

One person died in a fire accident that happened at Mohiuddinpur sugar mill in Meerut on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Narendra Kushwaha, was working as an engineer with the mill and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The incident has been reported to the Pratapur police station in Meerut.

The fire was caused due to sudden tripping of a turbine operating at the factory, said Sheeshpal Singh, general manager of the sugar mill.

“As soon as we got the information, we rushed to the spot and found that the factory was engulfed under huge smoke. The power supply to the plant was immediately cut to avoid any casualty. One of our engineers was injured in the incident and we immediately rushed him to the hospital,” he said.

Two fire tenders were called on the spot to douse the fire. We will ascertain the losses and the actual reason behind the accident said a police officer investigating the case.
